Looking for a Voyage alternative?

Voyage, from Latitude, the team behind AI Dungeon, and CollideAI start from the same idea: the AI should not simply decide that you succeed. Voyage puts the machinery on screen, with dice, hit points and levels. CollideAI rolls too, but keeps the numbers out of the story. Here is how that plays out, and where Voyage is ahead.

03What CollideAI does differently

Built for the long story

Four choices that matter if you came for the story more than the game.

01

The rules stay out of the prose

In CollideAI's story mode your attempt is rolled before the AI writes it, and what your character is good at shifts the odds, but you never see a number. The punch misses in the narration, not in a dice panel. Coins, cards and other chance in the story are actually random too.

02

A texting mode

Not every scene needs a narrator. Texting mode is an SMS-style thread with one character from your story, who texts the way they talk and sends photos that match how they have looked all along.

03

Rewind that actually rewinds

Deleting a message removes everything after it and everything the AI learned from it, so the other branch starts clean instead of carrying a memory of the one you threw away.

04

Pictures from inside the story

Any scene in story mode can be captured as an image, and characters in texting mode send photos that match how they have looked all along. Both are switches you can turn off for plain prose.

04Where Voyage is ahead

Credit where it’s due

Multiplayer

Voyage has public multiplayer servers and private co-op where only the host spends anything. CollideAI is single player.

A rulebook you can see

If you like watching the roll, tracking hit points and levelling up, Voyage gives you a real RPG ruleset. CollideAI's rolls are real, but you only see their result in the story.

Platforms and narration

Voyage runs on the web, iOS and Android, and can read the story aloud. CollideAI is Android only, and its sound is text effects and ambience.

If you want a tabletop-style RPG with friends, dice on the table and a character that levels up, Voyage is the better fit. If you want one story that reads like a book and still holds you to the consequences, that is what CollideAI was built for. Try it in a canon world or one of your own.

05Questions

Switching, asked and answered

Q01Is CollideAI made by the AI Dungeon team?

No. Voyage and AI Dungeon are made by Latitude. CollideAI is an independent app.

Q02Does CollideAI roll dice like Voyage?

Yes, but you do not see them. In story mode your attempt is rolled before the AI writes the result, so a punch can miss or a lie can be seen through, and what your character is good at shifts the odds.

Q03Can I play CollideAI with friends?

Not yet. CollideAI is single player.

Q04Is CollideAI free?

Free to download on Google Play, with an optional subscription.
